The Tampa Bay Buccaneers bolstered their front seven and depth on defense on Monday, signing free agent defensive tackle Tony McDaniel to a one-year contract that’s worth up to $2.5 million, per Pro Football Talk.
A former 2006 UDFA out of Tennessee, McDaniel has amassed a total of 203 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 14 pass breakups throughout his nine-year NFL career in Jacksonville (2006-08), Miami (2009-12) and Seattle (2013-14).
Seattle released the colossal 6-foot-7, 305-pound defensive tackle eight days ago in a cap-saving move. While he’s not exactly an elite talent, McDaniel could become a big asset in Tampa Bay due to his skills as an interior run-stuffer.
The Buccaneers look pretty stacked at defensive tackle now with Tony McDaniel joining a group that also includes Gerald McCoy, Akeem Spence, Henry Melton and Clinton McDonald.
McDaniel and McDonald should have plenty of continuity, having a spent a year together in Seattle (2013).
