The New York Jets are coming off a disastrous 4-12 season, but the future is looking very bright under the direction of new head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Mike Maccagnan.

In addition to their impressive draft haul — which included arguably the safest and best overall defensive prospect in USC DL Leonard Williams, promising second-round deep threat WR Devin Smith and mid-round value picks in edge rusher Lorenzo Mauldin and developmental quarterback Bryce Petty — Bowles and Maccagnan did a masterful job of turning the team’s biggest weakness into its biggest strength during free agency by bringing Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie back to New York, along with newcomers Buster Skrine and versatile safety Marcus Gilchrist.

But with the way the other three AFC East teams have performed in the offseason, climbing out of the gutter of the division and trying to make a playoff run will be easier said than done.

Contrary to our other ongoing series on the breakout candidates for every team, this league-wide series includes rookies and established veterans — some of whom will assuredly make it to Canton within the next decade, but they have plenty to prove this year because they’re coming off injury and/or signed with a new team in the offseason.

Without further adieu, let’s take a look at five Jets players that have the most to prove in 2015.
