Detroit Lions Add Another Weapon For Matthew Stafford

The Detroit Lions added another weapon for franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford on Tuesday, signing veteran receiver Lance Moore to a one-year contract.

While it’s obviously not a game-changing addition for the Lions, the sure-handed, chain-moving 31-year-old wide out was one of the better remaining free agents and adds depth to the Lions’ impressive receiving core.

A former undrafted receiver out of Toledo, Moore also reunites with ex-Saints assistant and quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi, who is now the offensive coordinator in Detroit.

In 10 NFL seasons with the Saints (2005-13) and Steelers (2014), Moore has appeared in 115 contests and only has one 1,000-yard season and four seasons with at least 50 catches.

But for an undrafted 5-foot-9, 180-pound receiver who took his talents to NFL Europe to play for the Berlin Thunder after already having short stints with the Browns and Saints, Moore has had impressive NFL success. He’s also made just 32 starts and amassed 360 career receptions for 4,479 yards and 40 touchdowns.

He’ll compete for a roster spot and a role in the Lions’ offense with injury-prone Ryan Broyles and 2013 and 2014 sixth round receivers Corey Fuller and T.J. Jones, along with a handful of undrafted rookies. Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate are obviously Detroit’s top receivers, with Jeremy Ross utilized primarily in the return game.
