Arthur Ray Jr., a cancer survivor, is ready to “show everyone anything is possible.”
Ray was diagnosed with bone cancer in his left leg during his senior year in high school in 2007, shortly after he committed to Michigan State. His treatment lasted over three years and included several surgeries and setbacks. He was also told he would never play football again, but Ray never gave up hope.
The former Michigan State offensive lineman returned to the field for the Spartans in 2011, before ultimately transferring to Fort Lewis College — a Division II school in Durango, Colorado — for more playing time.
That proved to be a great decision, as Ray continued to develop with the Skyhawks. He then impressed scouts enough at Northwestern’s pro day to merit a post-draft tryout.
Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports Ray will tryout with the Miami Dolphins at their rookie minicamp this weekend. While the 6-foot-2, 292-pound offensive lineman faces long odds, he’s just thrilled for the opportunity.
“First and foremost, I want to thank the Miami Dolphins organization for believing in me, and allowing me this opportunity,” Ray told FOX Sports. “Words can’t express how this feels to have this shot. I want to thank my agent Paul (Sheehy) and everyone who has supported and been in my corner.
“Since Day 1, I prayed for an opportunity like this and God blessed it to me. I’m just ecstatic for me and my family. I’m ready to work, prove my abilities on the football field and show everyone anything is possible.”
