Star players often capture the spotlight around the NFL. This is especially true this time of year when many standout players receive massive contract extensions, suffer injuries or run into off-the-field trouble.
But every year, we also witness plenty of unproven, promising young playmakers step out of the shadows and make a name for themselves with a breakout season.
Some of these guys were merely backups or barely even played the previous year (if they saw the field at all), while others were full-fledged starters who just haven’t quite reached their immense potential.
Admittedly, we had a fairly significantly tougher time assembling our list of 2015 breakout candidates for Indianapolis, Seattle, Buffalo and Miami than we did for the other 28 teams in the NFL.
That’s because they’re amongst the most talented teams in the league, each in possession of a young, established franchise quarterback (with the exception of Buffalo) and a franchise running back.
Roughly half of the teams in the league either don’t have an established franchise quarterback or an established franchise running back, and about a quarter of the league doesn’t have either one.
Each of those quarterbacks are also operating behind an inexperienced, subpar offensive line. That’s worth noting, since only about 12 percent of our breakout candidates are offensive linemen, who of course receive the smallest spotlight of any position group in the NFL today, outside of punters.
The Seahawks, Colts, Bills and Dolphins also all finished in the top dozen in total defense last season and each team also boasts and impressive collection of sure-handed possession receivers and dynamic field-stretching deep threats, which forced us to dig deeper to discover the five players with the best shot to break out for the four respective teams in 2015.
Here are five players poised to break out for the Miami Dolphins in 2015.
